How to clean the WinSxS folder in Windows 7 and 8

WinSxS folder resides in Windows 7 and Windows 8 operiating system ,WinSxS folder is in C:\Windows or your windows7 and windows8 operating system’s Windows folder. WinSxS folder stores dll and component files.WinSxS also stores older versions of all dll and component files and as a result grows and became large. In addition to that, a lot of space is taken up by the backup folder of WinSxS, and gradually increases the size of the WinSxS folder after you install a Service Pack for Windows 7 as a result degrading the performance of your PC .

When you installs Windows7 or Windows8 operating system in your PC WinSxs keeps the core system files in it. Once you install Windows7 or Windows8 updates or any Windows7 or Windows8 service pack,WinSxs increses in size as new core file sotores in it along with old files.As these are core set of system files for Windows, so do not try to delete anything yourself contained in the WinSxs folder. But you can save some space.

To do that follow the following steps :

Reduce the size of the backup folder

Go to run >>type cmd>>then type dism /online /cleanup-image /spsuperseded /hidesp

There is another way to permanently remove the backup files :

Go to accessrios>>System Tools>>Disk Cleanup>>Check the Service Pack Backup Files

In Windows 8, using the DISM command you can remove packages that you no need or want.

The command is DISM.exe /Online /Disable-Feature /Featurename: /Remove

Now the question what features you can disable?

Running The following command you will see all the available features:

DISM.exe /Online /English /Get-Features /Format:Table

Now seeing the list of feature you can disable a feature u not need :

DISM.exe /Online /Disable-Feature /Featurename:SimpleTCP /Remove

Very special news for android users that Google is going to organise and Android event.

According to androidpolice.com Google is going to organise a Android event on Monday,October 29th in New York .The invitation for the mentioned event has reached our inbox.The event will be will be on latest and updated application in respect Google’s mobile operating system.

It is speculated that the focus of this event will be on two things:

1)A new Nexus phone

2) Android 4.2.

Android 4.2 is a fairly incremental update to the OS (see our teardowns of an alpha build of 4.2, here and here)

So the focus has largely shifted to the next Nexus.

Google will be live-streaming the entire event on YouTube at youtube.com/Android.

According to Android Police Google has just introduced a brand-new feature on its Play Store.That would be very useful to many people. You can now purchase play store credit directly through the Play Store site. The new option is available near the “Buy Gift Card” link at the bottom of any Play Storage page.

It is not confirmed that in how many countries it is available. It is undoubtedly a easier way then heading down to your local Target and picking up a physical Play Store gift card, introduced in August, if not need to. For whom who own Android devices is better way to buy directly from the web .

Malware scanner for Android devices

Google working on built-in malware scanner for Android devices .Latest Google Play store may come with a built-in malware scanner in near future.

According to Android police, a string file in google play store updates and may come with built in malware scanner.The string file has an “App Check”, along with various menu popups such as “Allow Google to check all apps installed to this device for harmful behavior?” and “Installing this app may harm your device.So there is a conspiracy in the Android user that their devices will be able to check the application before installation in near and the user will get a warning if anything suspicious found in their devices. According to the Android Police, the new feature is related to Google’s recent takeover of Virus Total.

In February, Google introduced a feature bouncer to automatically scan new and existing applications on the app store. The feature however alerted the developers about possible problems with their apps. “App Check” option is to focus on notifying the Android users about suspicious content in their Android device.

How to see your google contacts on Google Map

You can create online google map and view in the Google earth, postal addresses of your friends and otheres saved in your Google Contacts , The following steps describe how to do that

Go to google Docs and make a copy of in your own Google Docs account.
To go to make a copy please click the link Here
To access your Google Contact go to Google Contacts menu and choose Initialize then authorize Required->ok .
Then click the Generate KML in the Google Contacts menu.
A KML file will sent to your email account.

Now go to your mail box and downlaod the KML file and save it.If you double-click the KML file it will directly open inside the Google Earth.Now you can read the name and address of the contact using marker.

You can also upload the KML file. Copy-paste the URL of the KML file into the Google Maps Search box to see map.

You can do the asme thing for othe contacts also (like Yahoo Mail). To do that export the contacts data from your address book of yahoo or others as a CSV file and import the file into Google Contacts.

Google’s Geocoding service permits to make 2,500 requests per IP per day.

Microsoft Has Recreated New Corporate Logo

The renowned software company Microsoft has recently unveiled a new corporate logo for Windows 8 with four coloured squares.Where four colored squares represent Windows, Office, Xbox and Windows Phone family of products.

How to Block Unwanted Sites appearing in your Google Search Results

Google is performing better to identify and remove spam websites from Google search results pages. But sometimes useless sites passing through the Google filters. How you block these sites from appearing in your Google search results?

Strep 1: Block Sites at the Browser Level

Google Chrome add-on called Personal Blocklist that lets you to block and prevent entire web sites from showing up in your Google search results. If you find any unwanted or blocked website in search results pages, click the block link as shown below in the screen shot. All pages from that website will be hidden from your Google Search results forever.

If not sure how to do personal Block List follow the steps

Open Google chrome->Go to option Showing Right side as below sign in->search setting-> Blocking unwanted results ->click on the link-> block unwanted sites ->Sign In-> Manually block a site->type the site name->block.

You can block up to 500 sites to your blocked list and Google won’t show pages from any of the included sites provided you are signed in with your Google account. That’s the promise but unfortunately, this solution doesn’t seem to work anymore.

Step2: Google Search with a Global Filter

If you want to create a “global filter” for your Google search results that works for all browsers and mobile devices also , you can use Google’s Custom Search (CSE).

Steps To Stetting Google’s Custom Search:

1) Supposed You have blocked several websites using the Personal Blacklist in Chrome, click the BlockList icon and choose “Export to download the list of blocked sites you have already blocked.

2) Process 2: Click here to create a Custom Search Engine. Fill the form according to your search. Enter the name, description and in the “Sites to Search” section, enter the TLDs (like*.net, *.com, *.org, etc) one per line.

Process 3: Click Next to save. You have an option to test your Google’s Custom Search. Click next again and, click the link “Include more sites.” This is where you will be able to enter the list of “bad” websites the should be blocked in Google Search Results.

Choose Exclude Sites: Exclude Sites in Bulk and enter all the sites that should be removed from your Google search results. You can copy-paste your Blocked sites list already done in chrome. Save the changes your customized Google search engine is ready.

If you would like your Google search engine to search all known TLDs and not just the popular ones, go to

-> Manage Search Engine page-> Google Custom Search and change-> “How to search included sites” option from “Search only included sites” to “Search the entire web but emphasize included sites.” That’s all

How Can Hackers Help In The Fight Against Cancer?

When 1 in 3 humans are affected by a disease, it needs attention and help from all corners. There are many types of cancers, so it’s hard to say if we’ll ever be able to completely cure cancer. But prevention, early detection and proper care are crucial in cancer diagnosis and its treatment.

As David Agus, a cancer doctor, would like to say:

In health care today, we spend most of the dollars — in terms of treating disease — in the last two years of a person’s life.

I pondered on it one evening and thought I’d find out about some “programmable” possibilities related to cancer research for hackers from the non-scientific community, besides the obvious means of help like donations (both charity and research), awareness drives and volunteering.

I got in touch with Jon Kiddy, a software engineer who works at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Jon kindly shared his views and pointed out that the current state of cancer research can be summed up in one of Daniel Markham’s excellent posts. After having read the book on the subject called “The Emperor of All Maladies”, Daniel went on to state the general problem with cancer research is that the US healthcare isn’t setup to support individualized care and treatment, which is currently undergoing the most intensive scrutiny. A commentor on Hacker News responded to Daniel’s post with this inspiring message:

You want to fix cancer, don’t wait for the scientists. They are hobbled by regulation. Be an engineer: get out there and make one of the viable solutions work, and make it work outside the US.

What started as modest self-education, has led me to several impactful ways in helping with cancer research:

1. Distributed Computing Projects – In 2003, with grid computing, in less than three months scientists identified 44 potential treatments to fight the deadly smallpox disease. Without the grid, the work would have taken more than one year to complete. Participating in a distributed computing project is the easiest way to get involved with cancer research.

You can donate your unused computer resources to research projects like Help Conquer Cancer, Help Fight Childhood Cancer, Rosetta@home, Folding@home.

Grid computing works by splitting complex computations into small pieces that can be processed simultaneously on individual public nodes, there-by reducing research time and making the technology infrastructure cost-effective.

2. Build on “Big Data” – Massive amounts of raw data is available for analysis in cancer research. As Jon wrote back to me:

The problem comes when there is such a large amount of data to process in a field where each individual’s treatment is usually uniquely suited only to them. Hadoop/Hbase is in use by The Cancer Genome Atlas to make some of this process more bearable. Their datasets are invaluable.

The combination of Apache Hadoop (for distributed computing), HBase (distributed database), MapReduce (for distributed computing on large datasets on clusters of computers), R Project (for statistical computing), and Gephi (for visualization and exploration) changes the way we think about analysis of Big Data.

Data analysis, data visualization and even Web crawler technology are all important in cancer research, for processing highly distributable problems across huge datasets using a large number of computers.

Last year, the Cloudera Data Science Team wrote about some of their work with Hadoop:

Instead of focusing on a handful of outcomes, we can process all of the events in the data set at the same time. We can try out hundreds of different strategies for cleaning records, stratifying observations into clusters, and scoring drug-reaction tuples, run everything in parallel, and analyze the data at a fraction of the cost of a traditional supercomputer. We can render the results of our analyses using visualization tools that can be used by domain experts to explore relationships within our data that they might never have thought to look for. By dramatically reducing the costs of exploration and experimentation, we foster an environment that enables innovation and discovery.

3. Apps and Tools – Personal profiling and monitoring could be another area of focus for developers interested in cancer research or general health-related diagnosis.

Whether it’s an app to protect against or detect (early) skin cancer,
a wearable computing device to track Adverse Drug Events (ADE),
a crowdsourced game to solve scientific puzzles,
a prediction model based on social trends,
or a Web-based tool (similar to mappiness or TrackYourHappiness) to monitor a persons diet (it’s been widely discussed that smoking, ingestion of sugar and excessive red meat may set the stage for rise in cancer occurrences).

There are lots of possibilities for personal solutions that aid in collective science.

“In lieu of spending a decade in training to become an oncologist, I have been able to put my skills to practical use.”, Jon says about the impact he’s making.

I really wish for many more technology enthusiasts to devote their time, skills and efforts in the fight against cancer.
